The nutrient solutions containing different combinations of 0, 0.44, and 0.89 μ mol l \u0026#8722; 1 Cd and 3.0, 5.0, and 7.5 mmol l \u0026#8722; 1 Ca were applied for a period of 14 days. No significant difference in the growth of seedlings was observed with different concentrations of Cd and Ca. The Cd concentration in the shoots grown in 5.0 mmol l \u0026#8722; 1 Ca or 7.5 mmol l \u0026#8722; 1 Ca medium significantly decreased to 41 % \u0026#8211;63 % or 45% \u0026#8211;58% of those in 3.0 mmol l \u0026#8722; 1 Ca plus 0.44 or 0.89 μ mol l \u0026#8722; 1 Cd medium, respectively. Higher Ca concentration in the medium resulted in decreased concentration and translocation of Cd in the shoots. The Cd concentration in the roots grown in 7.5 mmol l \u0026#8722; 1 Ca medium was 3.1-times higher than that in 3.0 mmol l \u0026#8722; 1 Ca plus 0.44 μ mol l \u0026#8722; 1 Cd medium; however, no significant difference was observed using different Ca concentrations with 0.89 μ mol l \u0026#8722; 1 Cd. No significant difference in the Ca concentration and content in the shoots were observed between all Ca treatments.
